Second Blog Post

The quest for my second blog post was to go to a social media website and explore and familiarize myself with it, and of my options I chose Tumblr. After I made my account, the website asked me what I was interested in seeing. Of the options presented to me I chose, Beauty, Anime and food! I know this is a strange combination but let me assure you that I, myself am a strange combination! After the website computes my choices I see images of delicious soups, a woman in a gorgeous dress and Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is one of my all time favorite Anime! No matter how old I get, I still get the same excited feeling when I see the Sailor Scouts transform to battle evil doers. Not to mention their transformations are absolutely gorgeous.

As I am making my way around the social media site, I am seeing a lot of images and quotes. But this doesn’t seem to function the way that an Instagram or Facebook does. I mean to say, there isn’t a lot of posting followed by comments or conversations. I’m just seeing posts and more posts and a lot of loving of these posts, but not really any conversation. This makes me feel like this site sort of operates like a Pinterest website. Which I have often used to find recipes or funny memes. Apparently you can join group chats on the site but I haven’t figured that out yet! There is much more to explore for me here. I am certainly having fun on this quest and the algorithm surely, has me all figured out, by the one brief preliminary question asked during my sign up process.

First Blog Post

Hello everyone, this is my first blog post and I must admit it is a tad overwhelming. I happened upon a domain name that was free and since I do not have any extra money to throw around, it seemed perfect. I hope no one comes across this blog looking for financial advice due to the misleading domain name. The only blogs I have ever come across involve food. My knowledge of what blogs “should” be about is limited to recipes and how someone discovered them. If I were to blog about something that interests me, or something I would want to spread a message about, I would have to say, that I think this world could really use a little more kindness. I see a lot of people who are quick to judge or lose their patience with others. I do work in a retail setting, and I often think, how much would it really hurt for someone to give another the benefit of the doubt? It would cost exactly zero dollars to be kind to someone.

Anyway, I believe the purpose of my blog post is to review another blogging cite. I reviewed the cite Mashable. Is this a really popular cite? Does everyone know about it? Have I just been in the dark this whole time? There was a lot of interesting information on the site. Lots of reviews on upcoming technology. As well as interesting articles about Social media news. For instance I read that Reddit is besting Facebook in thwarting attempts to impersonate others in a misleading or deceptive way. I guess I didn’t realize that Facebook wasn’t making as much of an effort to do the same.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
